Description
Fenugreek’s name is from the Latin called Greek Hay.
It is a slender and annual herb of the pea family. Seeds are hard and yellow-brown. They are angular shapes such as cubic, oblong and rhombic. Available in whole and dried as a yellow powder and ground from roasted fenugreek seeds.
Its aroma is warm, penetrating, and more pronounced when roasted.
Seeds are thrashed from the whole uprooted plant and dried separately for a long time.
India is the largest producer of Fenugreek seeds in the world. The fenugreek plant is resistant to most infestations. It prefers to grow in full sun and well-drained, fertile, Alkaline soil. Seeds get harvested after five months of sowing.
